 The Arkansas River Project

The Arkansas River Project is an endeavor by the City of Pueblo to improve wildlife habitat, environmental education and provide additional recreational opportunities. Along the corridor from Lake Pueblo to the confluence with Fountain Creek, $2 million in GOCO funds were used by the City to achieve 9.5 miles of stream enhancement, improvements at the Pueblo Greenway & Nature Center, trail improvements including new connections, a river otter exhibit at the Pueblo Zoo and a park along the river that provide two access points to a kayak course. Partners in the project include the Army Corps of Engineers and the Pueblo Conservancy District. The project complements the Historic Arkansas River Project (HARP) in downtown Pueblo, also a GOCO Legacy project.
