Where Do You GOCO - January 2017 Closed Projects

Wednesday, February 15, 2017 -- GOCO

There’s a lot of fanfare around grant awards, but what happens after the ceremonial checks are presented, the reporters have published their articles, and the interviews are over? Our grantees get down to business.

GOCO funding has built parks and trails, helped communities recover from floods and schools build new playgrounds, protected wildlife habitat and open space, and improved outdoor amenities like campgrounds and boat ramps. We’re funded completely by Colorado Lottery proceeds and have invested in more than 4,900 projects in all 64 counties. Read our annual report for more information >>

Each year, we award funding through competitive grant programs to communities across the state and to Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Grantees are typically allowed about two years to complete projects.

Most recently, Castilian was director of strategy and engagement for Anadarko Petroleum Corp., where he led government affairs, social investment, employee engagement, and stakeholder outreach for the Rockies region.

What Is A Conservation Easement?

Tuesday, January 17, 2017 -- GOCO

Have you ever wondered how land in Colorado gets conserved and what that really means? To conserve something is to protect it—and since protecting land is an important part of what GOCO and many of its partners do—we thought we’d take the opportunity to break down how it (typically) works.

Celebrating GOCO's Inspire Initiative Pilots

December 8, 2016 was a big day for GOCO. Not only had our board just awarded one of our largest rounds of funding, but $13.2 million of that funding was awarded to our six pilot coalitions for the Inspire Initiative. We brought together Inspire Initiative coalition members, youth leaders, partners, supporters, and the media to celebrate a huge milestone for this groundbreaking initiative to get kids outside and break down barriers keeping them from connecting with nature.

If you want an English version of the annual report in the flesh, send us your mailing address:

We Hear You - 2016 Listening Tour Takeaways

Wednesday, November 9, 2016 -- GOCO

This summer, as part of our annual grant writing workshops, GOCO embarked on a nine-stop listening tour around the state, soliciting input and capturing feedback. We invited people from all grant-eligible entities and were so pleased with turnout. We met with experienced grantees looking for the latest information, reconnected with previous applicants who hadn’t been through our grant process for a while, and greeted new faces eager to understand how GOCO funding works.
