After spending 2014 listening to the public — from a statewide listening tour to focus groups and public surveys — GOCO completed a five-year strategic plan to guide its funding priorities until 2020.
The plan reflects the public's desires and GOCO's unique role in preserving Colorado. The plan is anchored by three overarching goals:
- PROTECT more urban and rural land for people and wildlife, notably once-in-a-lifetime, large-scale projects.
- CONNECT people to the outdoors by increasing bike and pedestrian access in communities across Colorado and filling gaps in important trail systems.
- INSPIRE more kids and their families to explore and take care of our great outdoors by addressing the growing disconnect between youth and nature.
For this strategic plan, GOCO has continued its tradition of listening carefully to Coloradans across the state. GOCO surveyed the public and its stakeholders, conducted a Listening Tour in 13 communities, solicited input online, held focus groups, and examined current trends in population and other factors in the state.
