Open Space Grants

Mt Garfield and the Town of Palisade, CO.

Open space grants help fund land conservation projects for public and private use through fee acquisitions or conservation easements.

Land acquisition projects intended for low-impact, passive recreation with very limited facilities should be submitted through our Open Space Program; acquisition projects intended for high-impact, active recreation with significant facility development should be submitted through our Local Parks and Outdoor Recreation Grant Program.

Project areas include:

  • Buffers/in-holdings
  • Greenways/stream corridors
  • Community separators
  • Agricultural land
  • Natural areas and wildlife habitat
  • Scenic viewsheds
  • Urban open space parcels

Who Can Apply

Non-profit land-conservation organizations, municipalities, counties, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and political subdivisions of the State of Colorado that include in their mission the identification, acquisition, or management of open space and natural areas are eligible for Open Space Grants.

How To Apply

Call Program Manager Michele Frishman at 303-226-4522 to determine your project's eligibility and whether it will be competitive. 

GOCO staff will be available to conduct site visits prior to the application deadline this year. Site visits may be scheduled as early as July and will continue through September. Please contact Michele at (303) 226-4522 or mfrishman@goco.org as soon as possible if you would like to schedule a site visit prior to the application deadline; you will be required to supply a general description of the project for GOCO’s review prior to the visit

All grant applications must be submitted electronically through our online portal. 


When To Apply

Consider submitting a draft application to GOCO staff no later than two weeks prior to the application due date for feedback and comments. Feel free to contact us at any point during the application process. We are happy to assist you.

  • June 19, 2018: Application posted. 
  • July 26, 2018: Draft applications due (optional).
  • August 9, 2018: Applications due via online portal.
  • December 6, 2018: Grants awarded at GOCO Board meeting in Sheridan.
