Amber Shanklin
Amber is excited to bring her passion for land conservation, collaboration, and community impact to GOCO as a grants officer. She’s honored to support the people and projects shaping Colorado’s outdoor spaces and looks forward to helping partners navigate the grant process, overcome challenges, and celebrate big wins along the way.
With nearly 20 years of experience in conservation, nonprofit leadership, and stakeholder engagement, Amber has spent her career helping mission-driven organizations thrive. Before joining GOCO, she led a consulting firm focused on strengthening governance, operations, and impact across the nonprofit sector. She also served as conservation & stewardship director at Palmer Land Conservancy, where she oversaw the permanent protection and stewardship of nearly 140,000 acres. Amber continues to support watershed health and post-fire recovery through her role on the board of the Arkansas River Watershed Collaborative. She holds a master’s degree in Ecology from Colorado State University and bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Wildlife from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
Based in Denver, Amber enjoys traveling and getting outside as much as possible. She’s currently working her way through the Colorado Trail, one section at a time. She also moonlights as a part-time chocolatier when visiting her family’s chocolate shop in Wisconsin, where she enjoys experimenting with new recipes and, of course, taste-testing her creations.
